It used to be that kitchen faucets got all the attention, but now there are just as many styles and choices in the world of bathroom faucets today. Traditionally people used a one handle style but have since changed to more two handled options. As boring as they seem they get a lot of attention at home so be sure to get bathroom faucets that can handle the beatings of daily life. You need durability or you'll be buying another one within the year.
There are three basic styles including single hole, widespread and center set models. Whichever you like, just be sure it fits with your chosen sink. Some faucets are so wide they don't fit within the curvature of the commonly round sink designs.
Safety matters
Little hands often get into areas they shouldn't. Protect your children from scalding hot water by installing a scald guard on single handle faucets. You can independently set the maximum temperature of the water coming out of the faucet so kids can't get burned.
Chrome - very hard, easy to clean. Choices of matte or polished chrome. Be careful of peeling if its put on over the top of cheap plastic. Cheap bathroom faucets will have finishes that chip off.
Polished brass - very classic appearance, resists fading and scratching with the titanium finish. Standard brass is prone to scratching.
Colored - Nearly limitless options of colors available, easy to clean, but can chip and fade over time and in sunlight.
Gold plated - Looks very rich, can coordinate with other bathroom fixtures, the matte finish hides scratches. One of the most expensive options and must be sealed properly to prevent damage to the gold.
The term doesn't just apply to bathroom sink faucets. This term also covers shower faucets, bathtub faucets, whirlpools, bidet faucets, and tub/shower combos.
Something else to consider are the faucet valves. Water flow is controlled by the valve and there are several types on the market. Compression valves are the least expensive but the washers wear out over time. Washerless valves are more expensive but have far fewer repairs in the future. They're also more precise in the amount of water released. The top of the line are ceramic disk valves. They are also the most expensive but are becoming most affordable all the time. They don't require much maintenance but are expensive to repair if you do need replacement parts.
